Gathering Activity
Making SUN CATCHERS

Story Time

We have finished our gathering activity.
It is getting dark outside.
We go to another space for our Dr. Seuss story and discussion.

The room was dark.

From "What Was I Scared Of?"
By Dr. Seuss

I was walking in the night
And I saw nothing scary.
For I have never been afraid
Of anything. Not very.

Then I was deep within the woods
When, suddenly, I spied them.
I saw a pair of pale green pants
With nobody inside them!

I wasn't scared. But, yet, I stopped.
What could those pants be there for?
What could a pair of pants at night
Be standing in the air for?

And then they moved! Those empty pants!
They kind of started jumping.
And then my heart, I must admit,
It kind of started thumping.

Following the story, we had discussion about our fears.

Mark 14:32-36 tells us about Jesus,
who went to pray before he was actually betrayed.
He became fearful and overwhelmed and kept praying,
even asking God that he not suffer the fate he foresaw.
However, he moved ahead in faith and his faith (trust)
in God was so strong that his fear was overcome.
We know that he was put to death.
But we also know that he was resurrected to live with God.
Faith overcomes fear.
We know this because Jesus Lives!
(Jesus Lives is on the sun catcher craft.)

Advice for today:

Honestly take your concerns to God and let God’s love touch your life.

People who have felt God’s love is with them are able to face their fears.

Dinner Time!
