JAM Kids - April 21, 2010

JAM Kids - "Jesus and Me"

JAM Kids is designed especially for children in elementary school,
grades K through 6.

Thanks to all of our helpers, including Junior Leaders who have
"graduated" from the JAM Kids program.

We read in Genesis 1,

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth . .

And God saw that it was good. "

Unfortunately, people have not taken care of our wonderful earth,

and parts of it are no longer good!

We are very lucky to live in a beautiful community

where most people are concerned with the environment.

This happens to be “Earth Week” and nations all around

the world are spending time considering how we can improve

the quality of life on our earth and how to create a more

sustainable environment.

Who is the LORAX?

Our Dr. Seuss story today was The Lorax.

”Once upon a time,

we are told,

the world was like a beautiful garden

filled with

those trees! Those trees!

Those Truffula trees!"

But then, ater this perfectly beautiful “In the beginning,”

something went terribly wrong.

The old “Once-ler” did not care about the environment -

he was just greedy for more and more money.

Soon, people realized that the Truffula trees

could be used to supply people with all those things that they think they need.

The LORAX came and tried to show the Once-ler

that he was making a big mistake,

but of course, the Once-ler did not listen to the LORAX.

At the very end of the book, all of the Truffula trees have been chopped down.

The beautiful world is full of smog and clutter.

The Lorax has gone.

“But now,” says the Once-ler, “Now that you’re here,

the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear.

UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

nothing is going to get better. It’s not.

Word for the day: Responsible

We must all be responsible partners,

working with God, and be aware of our precious resources!

We had so much fun being creative!

We "recycled" lots of interesting items

to make creatures, buildings, and plants

that you might see in a Dr. Seuss book.

First, we selected which items we might want to use.
Then we started putting them together in interesting ways!

Each creation is as interesting and unique as its creator
!

Meal time is a good opportunity to visit with our friends

Judy prepares things that kids like to eat.

Happy Birthday, Grace!

And Happy Birthday to Sue, also!

GYM TIME!

"Back, back, zero . . . ."

Hug a friend.

Refreshing drink at the end of gym time.

CAMPFIRE SINGING at the end of the evening.

Thanks, Sam, for leading the singing.

We gather our things and head outside. It is a beautiful evening!

For our scriptures today, we look at Psalm 104:24

Lord, you have made so many things!

How wisely you made them all! The earth is filled with your riches.

I Cor. 3:9

For we are partners working together for God....

I Timothy 5:25

. . . the good that people do can be obvious;

but even when it is not, it cannot be hidden forever. “
