May Luncheon Day

Today is the day of the University Club Bridge Luncheon.
We need to get everything ready.

Today's Menu:
Paula Deen's Hot Chicken Salad
Holiday Broccoli/Cauliflower Salad with Craisins
Fresh Fruit
German Rye Bread with Butter
Peach Cake
Coffee, tea, iced tea, limeade, water with lemon

After arranging 11 tables, Sue sets the tables with the tablecloth,
napkins, silverware, glasses, and cups.

Carolyn is busy in the kitchen, making coffee, getting out the coffee pots,
preparing the cold beverages, and trying to remember all the details!

Mari coordinates the group.
Here she is, sharpening pencils in the office.
Charlene is preparing things for the snack table.

We now have our 44 plates lined out. It is getting near the time to serve.
Judy and Charlene are adding the Holiday Broccoli/Cauliflower Salad to the plates.Fresh Fruit Garnish
The Hot Chicken Salad is added immediately before serving.

Bob is the official greeter and gives a ride downstairs to anyone who needs one.

The snack table has nuts, candy, brownies, beverages, and a vegetable tray.

The ladies check in and get their name tags.

Pretty soon, there is lots of chatter in the room!

At 11:30, the serving begins.
It is important to eat lunch in a timely fashion so the bridge game can begin!

Don't forget to keep the coffee cups full!
Green is decaf. White is regular.
Lee, John, and Dick are serving today.

Desserts are ready to be served as soon as the main course is finished.
Today it is "Peach Cake" and it was yummy!

Clean-up is a scurry of activity.
As we work together, the jobs are completed
and we can sit down to a meal, also!

We missed Ron, Bev, Millie, and David today!

Our story for May was "The Zax"

Tonight’s short story, “The Zax” is found in several of the Dr. Seuss books.
There are two kinds of Zaxes, those that go north and those that go south.
The truth is, both kinds of Zaxes are able to go either direction,
but they did not choose to do so!

One day, making tracks
In the prairie of Prax,
Came a North-Going Zax
And a South-Going Zax.

And it happened that both of them came to a place
Where they bumped. There they stood.
Foot to foot. Face to face

Anna was a north going Zax.
Rachel was a south going Zax.
They each refused to budge.

". . . I’ll prove to you that I won’t change my ways
If I have to keep standing here fifty-nine days!”

We know that there are examples of this behavior
throughout our society, and through the centuries,
people have not been willing to negotiate or to sit down
to talk about their differences.

What an awesome world this would be
if we could all just listen to the lessons of Jesus.

We read in 1 Corinthians 13:4-5

Love is patient and kind;
love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude.
It does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful.

During dinner, we watched the video highlights from this year at JAM Kids.
After the May JAM session is added,
each family will receive a copy of the video.

Thanks, Sue, for all of the hard work on this video!

And the kitchen crew cleaned up the dishes.
Lisa, Charlene, Judy, Millie, Dick

Following dinner, everyone played "Circle Round the Zero" in the gym.
Then we came back to the Fireside Room for some singing.

Time for Campfire!

Each child got a Dr. Seuss book to take home.

"May God be with you
And bless you, loved ones.
May God be with you loved ones
And keep you every day."

We'll see you at JAM Kids in September!
