November 2013 JAM Kids - "Be Wise, Exercise!"

It was dark and cold outside, but inside of 2121 South Ridge Drive, there were smiles and laughter!   The theme for JAM Kids in November was "Be Wise - Exercise!" and our sport of the month was running.

For our gathering activity, we made some OWLS to help us remember to Be Wise.

Running is an activity that can be
done anyplace in the world.
A person needs very little equipment
and it can be done in any weather.
John was a runner when he was in school,
and he shared some thoughts about running
with the JAM Kids.

Do you know people who like to run?

Hebrews 12:1-2  adapted   "Let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author
and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross"

There are lots of scriptures that refer to running!

Isaiah 40:30-31: Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

It is important to stretch and warm up before running.
Be prepared!

 Dinner is Served

In addition to our sloppy joes, fruit, cheese cubes, chips and cupcakes, Yixuan's mother brought a treat for everyone to try.   They were Chinese pancakes!

Learning how to Cook?

After our meal, we learned how to make an OWL
appetizer that could be used at Thanksgiving.

First, spread the cracker with spreadable cheese,  cream cheese, or hummus.

Add sliced almonds for feathers and ears.

We used "mini Ritz" for the eyes, with a raisin in the center.

Run and  Freeze!

End the evening with singing.

And the parents arrive to take the kids home.
