Goodness, Faithfulness,
Gentleness, and Self-Control.
Against such things there is no law.
Scriptures for October
Everyone should be quick to listen,
slow to speak and slow to become angry.
James 1:19
So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,
but let us be alert and self-controlled.
1 Thessalonians 5:6

Time for the Bible Lesson
As Susan tells the story of the month,
we each illustrate the story using Play-Doh.
The Bible story to illustrate self-control was selected from James.
James compares the tongue to a horse's bit, a ship's rudder,
and a spark that can start a forest fire. We need to become
members of God's family and ask for His help in order
to learn to control our tongues and say things that are pleasing to God.
James was using his words to help others.
But after reading James's instructions, it might
seem like it's better not to talk at all so that we
won't be tempted to say wrong things!
But, James believed that with God's help
we can control what we say and our words can do a lot of good.
