JAM Kids - October 9, 2019

 October 2019 "JAM Session"

We welcome Iris to JAM Kids!

During craft time, we worked on our sign posts.
Then we decorated our photos with the Sneetch.

Our Dr. Seuss story was "The Sneetches"

Before watching the video of "The Sneetches."
our group was divided into those with stars
and those who were plain.

The people with stars all got a candy treat.
Those who were plain got nothing.
How did that make them feel?
There was an interesting discussion.
In the end, all people had stars and a treat!

The Sneetches in this Dr. Seuss story were part of
a very divided society.
Those with stars on their bellies thought that they were much better
than the Plain Belly Sneetches.
They avoided the Plain Bellies in every way.
Unfortunately, the Plain Belly Sneetches
believed what they were hearing,
and they felt inferior to the Star Bellies.
They wanted to become just like the others!

Then one day, a man came to town who would (for a  fee,
of course) add a star to their bellies.   Now they were all alike!
Until the original Star Bellies decided to have theirs removed. . .

The story is rich with social commentary about how human
beings search for ways to make divisions among themselves.
There is nothing better about having a star or not having one.
We form prejudices based on clothes, friends, and skin color.
So often, the things that divide are not any more important
than the stars on bellies of Sneetches.

We who are Christians need to recognize more fully the things that unite us rather than the things that divide us.

We are all created by God.   We are alike, and we are different, but we are all created by God.

There is a purpose in life for each of us.   We are called to serve others.  We have all fallen short of what God requires.   But we are all accepted and loved by God, who sent his son Jesus to help unite us.

Dinner!    Thank you, Jennifer and Judy!

Sara Beth offered a blessing on our food.

Then we went downstairs for a yummy meal!
