JAM Kids - October 12, 2011

JAM Kids met on Wednesday, October 12th.
Temperatures in Iowa City have been
unusually warm and the fall colors are brilliant.

When we went to the church in the morning to prepare
for the evening activities, a beautiful rainbow was in the west.

This is the view from the big window.

Will we find the pot of gold at Coral Ridge Mall?

Ryan had his photo taken with Jesus.

The JAM Kids first added a page to their notebooks.

Allison was helping to supervise the activity.

Our Story for October was the parable of the lost sheep.

“God Cares About Everyone” found in Luke 15

All sorts of people flocked to hear Jesus.
Some followed God’s ways and some did not.
Jesus treated everyone with love and kindness.
Some of the teachers of the law did not like this,
and they complained,
“Just look at him, sitting down and eating
with those people! I would never!”

Jesus heard their grumbling, so he told them a story.

Once there was a shepherd who had one hundred sheep,
including an old, smelly ram who was always getting into trouble.
One night, the old sheep wandered off and he was missing
when the shepherd took count for the evening.
It would have been very easy to say, ‘Ir does not matter.
Good riddance! That one was such a trouble maker, anyway!‘
But he did not.

The shepherd searched and searched until the lost sheep was found.
Then he called to his friends and invited them to a party to celebrate!
We need to listen for the voice of our master.

“It is the same in heaven,” Jesus said. “Whenever someone returns to God, the angels celebrate!”

Many sheep were hidden - lost behind white paper.
By rubbing a crayon over the paper, we could find the sheep.

One activity involved the photos of JAM Kids with Jesus.

Lots of things were available for decorating the photos.

First, you selected a color for your background.

Then you peeled paper off the foam letters to attach your name.

Each one was different. Each was special.

Story Time

We all shared stories. Were you ever lost?

How did you feel?

Was someone searching for you?

We listened to the parable of the kind shepherd.

And then we were SHEEP!

The shepherd counted each one as they entered the pen.

One was missing!
The shepherd had to search and search.

At last!
The lost sheep was found.

Evan helped to lead the song of thanks.
"Thank You, God
For Our Food
And Our Many Blessings
Amen"

Chicken nuggets, tortilla chips, snow peas,
little tomatoes, apple slices.
Rice Krispie treats. Beverage. Yum.

Thanks, Bev and Judy!

Burning off Energy in the Gym

Ryan sets up the gym for a game
of "Snatch the Bacon."

More Sheep!

We returned to the Fireside Room
There, we could make an origami sheep.

Or we could do a maze or a word search.

We really liked the challenging search!

Campfire Singing at the End of the Evening

Ryan teaches us how to form a banana, peel a banana,
and "GO BANANAS!"

Grant leads us in "Purple Stew."

Grace and Lily lead the group in "Love, Love, Love, Love."

Be sure to pick up everything from the table before you leave!
Don't forget your letter.
