November 2013 JAM Kids - "Be Wise, Exercise!"

It was dark and cold outside, but inside of 2121 South Ridge Drive, there were smiles and laughter!   The theme for JAM Kids in November was "Be Wise - Exercise!" and our sport of the month was running.

For our gathering activity, we made some OWLS to help us remember to Be Wise.

Running is an activity that can be
done anyplace in the world.
A person needs very little equipment
and it can be done in any weather.
John was a runner when he was in school,
and he shared some thoughts about running
with the JAM Kids.

Do you know people who like to run?

Hebrews 12:1-2  adapted   "Let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author
and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross"

There are lots of scriptures that refer to running!

Isaiah 40:30-31: Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

It is important to stretch and warm up before running.
Be prepared!

 Dinner is Served

In addition to our sloppy joes, fruit, cheese cubes, chips and cupcakes, Yixuan's mother brought a treat for everyone to try.   They were Chinese pancakes!

Learning how to Cook?

After our meal, we learned how to make an OWL
appetizer that could be used at Thanksgiving.

First, spread the cracker with spreadable cheese,  cream cheese, or hummus.

Add sliced almonds for feathers and ears.

We used "mini Ritz" for the eyes, with a raisin in the center.

Run and  Freeze!

End the evening with singing.

And the parents arrive to take the kids home.

October 9, 2013 JAM Kids

Scripture for the October:

Do not neglect the gift that is in you…... Practice these things, devote yourself to them, so that all may see your progress.
  1 Tim. 4:14-15, adapted

Grace somehow escaped getting her photo taken
outdoors in September!
But we captured her on her way in the door this month.

This month, we started out be creating a photo collage of our JAM Kids Team.
Each person now has a great reminder of their friends at
JAM Kids to keep in his or her room at home.

Our JAM Kids Team.

Each person had a set of photos to use.

It was fun to make our photo collage!

It involved cutting and lots of glue.

 Sharing in the Bible lesson

Our Bible story for October is a parable that was told by Jesus and it is found in Matthew 25:14 - 29.    Three servants were given money by their master before the master left town.   One was given 5 bags of gold, one was given 3 bags, and the last one was allowed only 1 bag of gold.    Upon his return, the master found different results from each of his workers.

Five bags of gold for this one!

What did the servants do with their gold?
One person was afraid to fail and did nothing.

We then turned the story into a present day situation.    A volleyball coach gave assignments to three of his players.   These tasks would help the players make improvement in game skills.   The two players who completed their assignments and worked hard in practice were rewarded with improved skills and starting positions on the team.   One player was afraid of failure and did not even try to do the assignment.     The result?   Bench time!

Singing at the End of the Day

This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine.
But we forgot to "hide it under a bushel?"  NO!

"God be with you, and bless you loved ones . . ."

 We'll see you in November!
