JAM Kids go to Russia
As the JAM Kids arrive, they each complete a set of "paper people"
which wear traditional costumes from that country.
After completing their paper people, kids created "sock puppets."
Sue helped with the hot glue gun.
And then it was time to get out the passports.
And the JAM Kids passed through customs to enter Russia.
Sue was one Customs officer.
Each passport is stamped.
Maddie was the other Customs Officer.
Sara surprised us with her official passport!
The passport gets a stamp and a sticker.
You are eligible to enter!
Russia is a really, really large country!
We continued our journey around the world with a visit to Russia.
What a big place! Our focus was on HOPE - the hope that comes through
knowing the love of Jesus.
Waiting for something is not easy.
Waiting for more than three generations must seem even longer when
all the evidence indicates that the thing you desire can never happen.
That’s exactly what happened in Russia during the Communist regime.
All religion was to be eliminated;
many churches were destroyed,
and athiesm was taught in the schools.
Teaching of anything religious was illegal and banned.
Was God still with them? Yes!
Many people remained faithful (in secret)
and after the fall of Communism in 1989,
things began to rebound for the Christians in Russia.
We cannot help but think that the following two scriptures
fit the theme for this evening.
Matthew 12:21 - In his name the nations will put their hope.
Psalm 33:20 - . . . “wait in hope . . “
We tried to remember stories that we know from the Old and
New Testaments where people put their hope in Jesus.
We shared our hopes with one another.
Dinner Included Russian Food and Candy!
Our prayer for dinner also included praying for
those were unable to attend because of illness or travel.
For those who did not want to try Russian food,
there was peanut butter and jelly.

And then there was "free play!"
We end the evening at campfire.
"If I were not upon a stage, something else I'd like to be."

A "teacher I would be"
"Egg"
Everyone got into the act before it was over!
Our crafts and letters were waiting on the table after campfire.
